What is Local SEO?
Local SEO is different to traditional SEO.
Traditional SEO deals with raising the visibility of your website in global web search results, whereas the objective of Local SEO is to increase the visibility of your business with potential local customers.
When a potential customer wants to find a local service, they use a different style of search term, and receive search results in a different format. For example, if you are visiting a city and want to know where to eat, you might reach for your mobile phone and search Google using terms like “Restaurants near me”. The results will probably include a map showing the locations of nearby pubs, restaurants and cafe’s, with top suggestions showcased with business address, Google ratings, photos and other useful info.
Not only are these results separate to the traditional Google search results, they are highly visible being placed at the top of the list which, in the majority of mobiles devices, will fill the screen.
Is Local SEO suitable for my business?
Local search is aimed primarily at bricks-and-mortar businesses who have a physical address and engage with customers on a face-to-face basis. The search results are geographic based on the location of the person searching with the intention of guiding them to local vendors or service providers.
Is it worth doing?
Four out of every five customers use local search to find products or services, so if you are a small business with a local customer base then you could be missing out on 80% of your potential online customers if you have not optimised for local search.
