Discovery and Fact Finding

Discovery / Fact Finding is activity which usually takes place early in the project or development lifecycle, involving gathering information from many sources including documents, surveys, interviews, observation and prototypes.

The output of this stage of Business Analysis is a complete understanding of the existing status of the topic in question, from which requirements can be validated and the gap between current and future states evaluated.
